Role

Chief architect

Present
Kvist Solutions · Backend Backend architecture, system design and development at Kvist.

Responsible for the overall design and development of Kvist’s backend. The role covers domain modelling, service boundaries and how the different parts of the platform fit together.

System design includes how services communicate, how data stays consistent and how the architecture evolves as requirements change. The shared foundation uses clean architecture, event-driven communication and CQRS.

The work spans the common microservice chassis and the systems behind frameworks, workflows, analytics and AI agents. It combines architectural decisions with implementation, with attention to reliability, performance and maintainability.

  1. Kvist Solutions

    Designed the workflow architecture

An extensible workflow model for people, tasks and automation.

Designed an extensible block protocol that separates workflow behaviour from orchestration. Human activities and automated steps share an execution model, with persisted state for processes that continue over time.

Signal handlers provide a common way to react to events, timers and changes elsewhere in the workflow. New activities and event sources can be added through these extension points.

  2. Kvist Solutions

Designed the views and analytics architecture

Flexible views and analytics across Kvist’s project data.

Decoupled the query model from storage through an infrastructure-agnostic, typed DSL. This makes rich types such as nested objects, collections and references queryable without exposing their physical storage.

Shared schemas connect queries, filters and layouts, with extension points for new types and storage implementations. ClickHouse powers event-driven materialisation and aggregation behind this boundary.

  3. Kvist Solutions

    Built agentic AI into Kvist

A custom agent harness focused on accuracy and context efficiency.

Built a custom agent harness with separate layers for agent execution, a durable transcript, model-facing context and provider integration. These boundaries let the model’s working context evolve while preserving the underlying conversation history.

Context engineering combines ontology-guided retrieval, on-demand tool discovery, values by reference, scoped memory and reusable skills. Bounded working context and cache-aware prompt assembly aim to improve accuracy and context efficiency while keeping information retrievable.

  4. Kvist Solutions

    Designed the framework architecture

Product strategy and architecture centred on composable building blocks.

Frameworks establish the architectural foundation for how Kvist’s building blocks fit together. Composition and reuse guide how functionality is combined and extended as the product evolves.

  5. Kvist Solutions

Designed the architecture for structured data

A shared foundation for structured data capture, reporting and calculations.

Designed a common architecture for defining, capturing, validating and calculating structured data across Kvist. Reusable concepts describe what is collected, while dimensions place values in context, such as a reporting period or document.

  6. NTNU

    Completed master’s degree

M.Sc. in Communication Technology and Cyber Security from NTNU.

  7. Kvist Solutions

    Built the CQRS projection architecture

An event-driven architecture for keeping application views in sync.

Separated domain updates from query-specific read models using event-driven projections. Replayable event streams support rebuilding views as data requirements change.

Versioned rebuilds, added on 13 September 2023, prepare new models alongside the active versions before switching queries over. This supports schema evolution while keeping reads available.

  8. Kvist Solutions

    Kvist platform launch

A collaborative SaaS platform for project management and BREEAM assessments.

Built a shared workspace where project teams could assign roles, manage deadlines, organise documentation and collaborate through messaging.

Dynamic BREEAM criteria, scores and credits let assessment requirements be configured within the platform, with results recalculated as project information changed.

  9. Kvist Solutions

Built the initial version of the microservice chassis

A common architecture for developing and maintaining backend services.

Applied clean architecture, domain modelling and CQRS to a shared TypeScript foundation for backend services. Dependency inversion separates domain behaviour from persistence and messaging.

Shared contracts and reusable infrastructure give services a consistent structure while keeping core business logic independently testable.

  13. Ages 11–17

    Early programming

Learning through experiments with Visual Basic, C++, networking and x86 assembly.

At 11, I started with simple programs in Visual Basic 6, my first programming language. I soon became curious about network programming and built a client-server application using WinSock.

Around age 12 or 13, I experimented with Visual Basic .NET.

    Around age 14, I experimented with C++.

At 17, I taught myself x86 assembly using flat assembler (FASM).
